Štinjan is located on the southwestern end of Istria near Pula, on the hills and valleys above the northern coast of the Pula bay. In the Roman times it was known as “Astiniaum.” In Štinjan you can visit the parish church with the bell tower of St. Margarita, the monument of the Fascism victims, “Šaliž” street, Turulu hill, Cristo fortress on the Proština peninsula and the remains of the roman baths with mosaic floor and the remains of a large wool mill in the Žunac bay and Guc cape. This small and peaceful tourist town has developed 700m away from the central beach which is surrounded by pine trees so we would recommend it for a family vacation. Other than on the central beach, you can also go to the smaller nearby bays. In this small town you can enjoy the various beauty of the coast, bays, islands and peninsulas.
Brijuni Islands are a unique combination of natural assets and cultural-historic heritage. Th eir favourable location, mild climate, fertile soil and beautiful landscape secured a continuity of human life on the islands from the prehistoric period to the modern age. Over four millennia elapsed from the establishment of the fi rst prehistoric settlement to the creation of a fashionable summer and health resort at the beginning of the twentieth century and the presidential residence. Each period left a peculiar trace, be it archaeological, building, cultural or historic, so that these relatively small islands covering the surface of only slightly more than 7 km² have become a unique open-air museum.
